Frequently Asked Questions
Backup solutions
How much space will my water solution take up?
This all depends on how much storage you require. We install three sizes of tanks: 1,000 L, 2,500 L and 5,000 L. The 1,000 L tank has a diameter of 800 mm and a height of 2,195 mm. The 2,500 L has a diameter of 1,474 mm and a height of 1,620 mm. The 5,000 L tank has a diameter of 1,840 mm and a height of 2,022 mm. You need to place the tank on a horizontal surface that is 200 mm wider than the tank and thick enough to withstand its weight (usually at least 100 mm).
If space is an issue, clients will link 2-3 1000l tanks against a wall and place the pump next to the tanks.
The best location will be determined during a site inspection and after discussions with the property residents.

How do I fill my tank?
Tank filling becomes tedious when not automated.
When filling manually, our experience has taught us that clients often forget to stop filling once the tank is full or to start filling the tank once municipal water has been restored.
Water 365 will only use automated tank refilling solutions. This eliminates manual filling and ensures that storage tanks begin refilling when the municipal water pressure is restored.
Water 365 will only use components that accommodate significantly increased pressure from municipalities.
We have found that municipal pressure varies and can increase beyond 12 bar! This pressure can often degrade the float valve seals and result in overfilling. Water 365 uses components that address these pressure spikes.
How much power does my booster pump use?
A standard booster pump (a pressure pump) does not offer variable flow, meaning it will begin pumping when the pressure falls below the selected level to maintain it. These pumps run at the full power of their capacity when on, regardless of whether you have all the taps on or just one. Simply washing a dish uses far more power than is necessary.
Water 365 installs various sizes of booster pumps, all of which are always variable-speed. This means that regardless of the pump size, it will only use the power needed to maintain the water pressure in your house. If you turn on a tap, it uses relatively little energy, as it doesn’t need to run at total capacity to maintain the pressure.
Once the selected pressure has been reached, the pump will stop running until the pressure reduces again due to the water being used.
Will my booster pump run all day and night to maintain pressure in my house?
No, your pressure pump will constantly read the water pressure in your house. Once the desired pressure has been reached, the pump will stop running, but the pressure in your system will continue to be monitored automatically.
Will bacteria grow in my tank if it is in direct sunlight?
Water 365 installs tanks that meet the highest standards of strength and hygiene. Each tank comprises three layers designed to prevent bacteria and algae growth. The tanks are continually tested to ensure that the standards never drop. The white food-grade inner layer prevents bacteria build-up and keeps the water cleaner and safer for longer.
The black anti-bacterial middle layer blocks sunlight and prevents algae growth inside the tank.
The special ultraviolet (UV) resistant outer layer ensures a durable, long-lasting tank.
What do I do if the municipal water pressure drops?
Water 365 advises keeping the booster pump on. This ensures that the pressure in your residence remains constant. Municipal pressure is volatile and will fluctuate due to several factors. Pressure-regulating valves (PRVs) are installed in all houses, preventing increases in pressure from damaging appliances connected to the water system.
Maintaining the required pressure of the pump at normal levels means that the pump will only operate when the municipal pressure has dropped.
Will my booster pump run all night?
Your booster pump will pressurise your house to the required pressure and then stop running whilst continually monitoring the pressure for when it drops. Once the pressure drops, your pump will automatically begin running again to pressurise your house once more.
If your pump does not turn off all night, you will likely find that you have left a tap on or that your house has a leak. If you cannot find a leak in your house, shut off the municipal water for a night and see if there is any water loss overnight. If your house has a leak, there will be water loss when no appliances are on and no one is using water.
Why do I have cloudy water when I change my filters?
When changing filters, air often enters the system, causing bubbles as the water is under pressure.
If you pour a glass of water and let it sit for a minute, the cloudiness should disappear as the bubbles float to the top.
This cloudiness will reduce (and eventually stop) with continual water use as the air in the system is removed.
Borehole solutions
How do I know where to drill?
Water 365 only contracts specialists with many years of experience in all operations.
Our surveyors will utilise their experience to identify likely areas with water (tree types and sizes, etc.) and then apply a few surveying techniques and area information to determine the best location.

Will I get more water if I dig deeper?
Not necessarily. If you dig deeper, you may hit a different water source with more water, or you may not. Like any borehole, the question should be about location rather than depth.
Like any water source you are likely to find on your property, the location for drilling the hole is essential.
Can I drink the water from my borehole?
As with most borehole-related things, we don’t know until we get down there.
It is challenging to know where the source is with underground water, as water can travel great distances before it reaches you. Although water can pick up many things along the way, the earth is a great filter, so more often than not, the water is easily treatable to ensure you receive excellent quality water from your taps.
We don’t often encounter problems ensuring the water is potable before it enters your water system.
Why are most boreholes found in driveways?
Most borehole drilling rigs are enormous, which inhibits drilling in various locations. Therefore, most boreholes in the driveway are very deep (80m+).
Our specialised drilling contractors have various-sized rigs, allowing them to access many more areas on your property. The rig is 1100mm wide and runs on tracks, ensuring it can fit around corners.
Should I license/register my borehole?
The answer is twofold:
1. One does not register a borehole but a water use – whether the source is surface- or groundwater.
2. No registration is required as this type of groundwater is used as it falls under Schedule 1-uses.
Some municipalities, however, have bylaws requiring the registration of boreholes.
Some municipalities require registration for many reasons. For example, in Ekurhuleni, you will need permission to drill a borehole. This is due to dolomite, which becomes very unstable when drilled and may affect large areas in the borehole region.
What happens if my tank runs dry?
Your tanks run dry if the volume of water exiting your tank exceeds the amount of water entering your tank and the storage is diminished.
This is straightforward to accommodate. You must briefly switch to municipal water until your tank has sufficient water.
Once you have enough water in your tank, switch the power to your booster pump off, leave for 1 minute, and turn it back on. Your booster will begin pressurising your system. Once your booster has pressurised your system, turn the shut-off valve off, stopping municipal water from entering your house.
What happens if my borehole keeps running dry?
Boreholes briefly running dry is a regular event for boreholes. Although not all run dry, the amount pumped from your borehole exceeds the refill rate. Your smart box, which controls your borehole pump, will identify that your borehole is dry and stop pumping. It will reset after a programmed time and begin pumping again.
It will run dry and restart until your tank is full again. While doing this, your booster pump will pump water into your house from the tank’s existing storage.
Why does my water taste different to municipal water?
This water has a different source and treatment process from municipal water.
Municipal water comes from various sources and is treated differently from your borehole water. However, the treatment is similar in abiding by the SANS 241 Standard.
The South African National Standard (SANS) 241 is a drinking water specification that states the minimum requirements for potable water to be considered safe for human consumption.
Water 365 will take samples, test your water, and then install filtration to ensure your water is 100% potable. We use SANS 241-compliant labs whose results are interpreted by an experienced filtration expert.
We advise at least annual testing to ensure your water is as clean as possible and to account for changing water quality from your borehole.
